About

I was born in Iraq in 1953, awarded a scholarship to study in the UK in 1970, from when the UK has become my home country. However all throughout, I have maintained a strong attachment to Iraq, my birthplace and childhood country. The two countries have a long shared history. This blog is about my reflections of the immense changes that have befallen both countries over the last 50 years or so.

You will also find that I have written socio-political articles that I believe are not only of concern to me but to anyone who feels deeply about topical issues.  Finally, I have also added a section on money.  Managing money in this day and age has become a complex subject and I hope that the notes would help dispel some of the mysteries.

I trust that you will enjoy the blog. Perhaps you would like to contribute, I will be very delighted to receive your comments.

Amir – thank you for your tribute to Scott! Whilst we miss him, the world is a better place because he spent time here. Scott and I met in South Africa in 1979 and from the first moment formed a strong bond built on our shared love of music, belief that there is no “box” and a deep faith in a creator who wants nothing more than to have a rich relationship with his creation. We last saw each other in 1982, but kept in touch intermittently over the years. In 2015 I moved to the UK and we started to make plans to get together – my enduring regret is that he left us before that reunion happened. Your words so accurately reflect the man I knew and the light he brought to everyone he touched.

I really do not follow blogs or any social media. Never did. Yours is the first that I read. I appreciate your info regarding finances, but we have our own equivalent in Canada.

I read though through your comments of Iraq and England over the last 50 years. Very interesting.

    Dear Amir,

First of all, I wanted to say that I had a good time reading your well-written, thought-provoking website.
One thing regarding “Baghdad-London” webpage, when I read the title I was eager to read more about your experience in Baghdad, or perhaps this is something to be added later?

    Many thanks

Many thanks for your comments Mushtaq. Baghdad-London section is really about my observations since my coming to the UK in 1970. My experience in Baghdad Pre 1970 is a future subject.

      Amir
